PROGRAM NOTE
Kreutzette was written as a light-spirited introduction to the Kreutzer Sonata. It isn't exactly a set of variations, it isn't exactly a paraphrase nor is it a fantasia. It's more of an excursion around one or two of the most arresting moments in the Beethoven. Just as I was about to start this frothy piece I was faced with an event which brought me some sadness. That soon changed, but it left a ghostly mark at the center of Kreutzette, albeit a mark which is—happily—in itself an echo of a passage in the Beethoven. |
