PERFORMANCE MATERIALS

    SIDEBAR
The performance of this piece took place in Symphony Hall, Boston and I'd been advised to hear
it from the side of the stage as the trek from the auditorium to the stage was a long one. Being
wilful and optimistic I sat in my orchestra seat to hear and see the piece in its full glory and . . .
as warned . . . getting to the stage (out into the lobby, through heavy doors to backstage, up
more steps, etc.) took long enough that by the time I'd arrived the applause was over. So I
surreptitiously returned to my seat, my – probably – one chance to bow on the Symphony Hall
    stage scuppered. Acch.
